Principals, superintendent report on student recognition, events and training
Summary
Principals Neaveill and Willard and Superintendent Weidner updated the board on student-of-the-month recognitions, Veterans Day events, extracurricular trips and staff training; several upcoming concerts and community events were announced.
Principal Neaveill reported elementary updates: midterms and picture retakes went home Nov. 15; two teachers will attend the Raising Student Achievement Conference Dec. 9-10; Reading Recovery lessons will be taught in Bloomington, and a Health Life Safety visit is scheduled for Nov. 26. The elementary is collecting canned food for holiday baskets to be delivered Dec. 19-20 and has PK Night on Dec. 13 and holiday concerts on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11.
Principal Willard reported on middle/high school activities: Dr. Gilpin was recognized as Decatur Rotary Teacher of the Month for October; the band participated in the Monticello Veterans Day Parade; FFA attended National Convention Oct. 23-25; junior-high tournaments and literary competitions occurred in November; several field trips and a theatre program were underway; flu shots were offered Oct. 29. Superintendent Weidner noted staff training on handling disruptive students, attendance at local events and a special strategic-planning meeting on Oct. 23 with IASB consultant Patrick Allen.
