Committee hears updates on turnaround pilot and vendor procurement

Senator Hale asked the committee to hear an update on turnaround and tiered intervention supports for priority schools. Sam Piercy (deputy commissioner) and Mary Ann Dursky described an earlier pilot pairing districts with turnaround experts and said the department is seeking a robust list of qualified turnaround vendors.
Piercy noted the pilot was introduced by Speaker Hill about five years ago and that the department is working with central procurement and the comptroller's office to expand capacity for turnaround supports. "We are working with our partners, both at central procurement and the comptroller's office, to make sure that we achieve that end as well," he said. Senators expressed support for finding high-quality vendors and asked that procurement ensure timely access to vendors for districts identified for intervention.
