Advisory committee hears plans to pursue 9.0 MGD SPDES permit and monthly DEC reviews

Peter Tuohy, chairman of the Orange County Sewer District No. 1 Advisory Committee, opened the April 21 meeting where Delaware Engineering outlined permitting steps for the county’s wastewater expansion.
Mary Beth Bianconi, partner at Delaware Engineering, said the project is focused on obtaining a 9.0 million gallons per day (MGD) SPDES permit to replace the existing 6.0 MGD permit and that the DEC asked the team to update some permit data. "They will be having technical meetings with the DEC on the fourth Wednesday of every month," Bianconi said, and she told the committee to expect a new permit within the next few months.
The consultant described a June schedule to present a Digital 3‑D Model Plan Review and the full design package to County technical staff before seeking DEC review. Bianconi said the team hopes to submit materials to the DEC ahead of an August deadline for plan review.
