Orange County committee approves $115,000 STRIVE grant to fund DA domestic-violence prosecutor

The Orange County Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee on April 22 voted to accept a $115,000 Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence Initiative (STRIVE) grant from the Department of Criminal Justice Services for the District Attorney's Office. Legislator Paul Ruszkiewicz moved the request and the motion carried; Legislator DeShanda T. Carter had not yet arrived when the vote was recorded.
Richard Moran, the DA's Chief Trial Prosecutor, described how the grant will support prosecution of domestic violence cases, saying the funding helps "help fund a prosecutor position" who attends weekly meetings with investigators, police departments and advocates to coordinate cases. The committee record notes the grant will run for the fiscal period 4/1/2026' 3/31/2027 and be used to improve safety response to intimate partner abuse within Orange County.
