Commission approves Dixon Dolphins’ donation to replace worn starting-block surfaces at aquatic center

Austin George, Recreation Manager, presented a donation proposal from the Dixon Dolphins to replace the plastic starting-block surfaces at the city aquatic center. He said the proposal meets the city's donation guidelines, covers 100% of material costs and uses replacement surfaces that fit the existing stainless-steel frames, minimizing compatibility concerns and long-term maintenance.
Megan Villasenor, Dixon Dolphins president, told commissioners the current block surfaces have deteriorated and caused swimmers to slip; she said the club uses the blocks nightly in practices and hosts several meets a year. “The rough donation cost is about $3,000,” she said, and argued the replacement would improve safety for youth participants and benefit the high school team and public rentals.
A commissioner moved to approve the donation and another seconded. Commissioners voted yes (roll call voice responses), and the motion carried unanimously. The commission thanked the Dolphins for their contribution; staff will coordinate installation and plaque/acknowledgment details as required under city donation policy.
