Highway commissioner reports winter prep, road patching and equipment work

Bob Nystrom, Chemung Township highway commissioner, reported multiple preparations for the winter season at the Nov. 20 meeting. He said all highway employees attended a Snow and Ice class in Crystal Lake; crews painted stop bars, inspected trucks, mounted plows, completed oil changes, and put large tractors into storage.
Nystrom also described road repairs and maintenance: shoulder work on a recently paved section of Oak Grove Road, asphalt patching at the Maxon and White Oaks intersection after culvert replacements, ongoing equipment maintenance and road patching, pickup of discarded TVs from ditches, and removal of a dead deer delivered to the Big Foot Sanctuary. He noted sheriff’s department inmates assisted with washing and painting equipment during the week of Nov. 4.
The report indicates routine winter-readiness work and small infrastructure repairs; no formal board action was recorded on the highway report during the meeting.
