Residents report lapses in landscape maintenance after contractor transition; council asks Mariposa for more detailed reporting

Multiple residents told the MAC that routine landscape maintenance in parts of Oak Park appeared to have stopped after the new landscape maintenance contractor took over. Douglas Wayne thanked staff and Council Member J.L. Diaz for researching the issue and said maintenance "appeared to have ceased following the transition to the new landscape maintenance contract." Brian Mattson said maintenance had stopped "around January or February 2026."
At the council’s discussion of the Landscape Report, members requested that Mariposa provide more detailed information on maintenance activities across Oak Park, plant-reduction recommendations to lower long-term costs (including drought-tolerant perennials such as lantana), and a schedule for irrigation repairs; the report noted repairs to irrigation lines are anticipated to begin in mid-August. The council also discussed recent work including treatment of 29 eucalyptus trees affected by beetle infestation and the removal of a fallen tree.
