The Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees voted Feb. 19 to encumber $125,000 for renovation and equipment updates to the library's Children's Room and authorized the library director to contract up to $50,000 for immediate work in the Storytime Room.
The board's adopted "Resolution Funding Children's Room Improvement" breaks the $125,000 encumbrance into three sources: John T. Busiel Fund $7,500; Jean Leone Fund $10,000; and General Fund $107,500. "WHEREAS, the Children's Library has not been updated in over 20 years," the resolution states, noting increased use and the need to modernize the physical space. Trustee Aaron Bassett moved to adopt the resolution; Alternate Bruce Kneuer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The resolution instructs Director Deann Hunter, with consultation from the Buildings and Grounds Committee, to seek estimates and enter into contracts for painting, flooring, furniture and equipment for the Storytime Room, with work to begin during fiscal year 2025–26 and continue into 2026–27 as needed. The minutes state that remaining funds will be explicitly authorized and appropriated at future board meetings.
