Highway commissioner reports mowing, storm cleanup, equipment repairs and maintenance activity

Highway Commissioner Nystrom reported a range of routine and storm-related maintenance activities across the township.
Nystrom said the crew has been "cleaning up the tree lines," completed a second round of mowing and continues cemetery maintenance, and is performing regular road checks and pothole repairs. He reported repairs to the salt shed using mostly on-hand materials, replacement of some lighting fixtures in the bays, and a repair to the John Deere tractor tire sent to Pomp’s.
He told the board that county or outside partners helped after recent storms: ComEd repaired a downed power line on Maxon Road, and the Sheriff’s Department worked Aug. 7–9 to spray weed killer and weed-whack bridge decks and helped chip storm debris. Staff members Bob and Kyle assisted with barricade placement and other on-site responses.
Nystrom also noted staff development and planning: he and staff (Bob, Kyle and Margie) attended the Highway Commissioners meeting in Peoria Aug. 12–14 and learned more about MFT funds, salting and capital funds. Routine materials and equipment deliveries were described as in progress.
