Council amends liquor code to require participation in police camera registry

The Chicago Heights City Council adopted Ordinance #2026-02 on Feb. 18, 2026, amending Chapter 4 of the municipal code to prohibit liquor-license issuance unless applicants participate in the Chicago Heights Police Department’s Axon-Fusus Real Time Intelligence Platform camera registry program. Alderman Wanda Rodgers moved the ordinance and Alderman Kelli Merrick seconded; the measure passed with ayes from Smith, Perez, Rodgers, Zaranti and Merrick.
Corporation Counsel T.J. Somer explained that the amendment makes camera-registry participation a condition of licensure. The ordinance language and program details will govern future license applications and any licensing determinations made by city staff and council.
