Hospital reports sustained volume increases; says all beds were in use and staffing remains a focus

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Okolo said the hospital continues to see durable volume increases. He reported an initial ED increase this year of about 7.4% that has spread across inpatient and operating-room activity, with some areas seeing 10–15% growth. On the meeting day he said "we have used every single bed at SVH," and provided bed counts to illustrate capacity: 23 total beds, 18 on the third floor, and 6 in the ICU.
Board members asked about staffing and whether the hospital risks hitting capacity limits. Dr. Okolo credited a core group of loyal nurses and per-diem staffing that has helped accommodate variability, acknowledged staffing remains challenging, and said work is underway — including meetings to identify ways to increase OR and procedural volumes and efforts to engage a managed-service provider to smooth staffing.
