Several Long Lake residents used the public-comment portion of the March 7 special meeting to ask for practical details about the Whitney Park sale and what the Town can expect.
James Bateman asked what the family plans to do with the property; Supervisor Arsenault replied the estate will list and market the property. Joe Widay asked how many acres were involved; Arsenault said it "is 36 thousand acres." Kent Stanton asked whether Camp on the Point (on Little Tupper) is included; the supervisor said "Camp on the Point is not included." Michael Black asked about legal limits on how much money the Town can hold and whether the Town would be obliged to sell to the highest bidder; Arsenault said the Town will be looking into legal limits and clarified that the Town is not selling the property — the estate is. Michael Farrell asked whether proceeds will be paid to the Town as individual lots sell; Arsenault replied that the estate will not be selling all lots as one. Don Winter asked if the public would have access to the property; Arsenault said no. Keith Austin asked whether the sale includes the "Bill Gross" property; Arsenault said it is included in the sale.
The March 7 meeting recorded answers to several practical questions but did not produce documents or legal determinations; the Board said it will pursue consultations to clarify legal and fiscal questions.
