Staff explained the county must offer forfeited parcels at public sale and that some properties are better offered in person rather than online because of unusual or noncompliant conditions that would confuse distant buyers.
Commissioners discussed a privately forfeited corner of Saint Isidore Cemetery that contains graves; the land advisory committee recommended the county first attempt to repurchase the parcel from the past owner and, if that fails, pursue a sale or conveyance to the city or the church and explore legislative options to sell directly to the church if necessary. The committee also recommended demolition of the Duquette School building (asbestos and shingles already removed) with a suggested demolition budget of up to $5,000 from the blight fund and a subsequent public sale with a minimum estimate of market value of $1,100; the board voted to adopt the committee recommendations.
