Michiana council approves trade-in and funding plan to replace village tractor

Councilmember Mike Mumper told the Village of Michiana on March 14 that the village has been saving to replace an almost 30-year-old tractor used by DPW and the water department. Two vendor quotes were presented—John Deere (quoted at about $68,789) and Kubota ($89,210)—and the council approved purchase of the John Deere with a trade-in allowance of $10,000 on the old tractor.
The council agreed to use the vehicle reserve ($20,640 from a maturing CD) and $38,149 from Water Bond money to cover the remainder so no budget amendment was required. Mike Mumper moved to purchase the John Deere (price recorded in the motion as $68,787); Mike Botelho seconded and the motion passed. The separate motion to cash the vehicle CD when it matures carried on a 4–0 roll-call vote.
