The Village of Michiana council voted to adopt HONK Parking Operations’ pay-by-phone system for non-resident parking around the village hall and park. John Cherewko of HONK explained that "This program requires No App; visitors would scan the QR code on the sign with their phone," and that the village would retain control over pricing and activation.
Council agreed to charge non-residents $10 per hour, with HONK taking a 2.9% credit-card transaction fee and charging the village $50 per month for service. The company will handle all payments and remit proceeds to the village monthly; council specified that the system can be turned off during village events. The motion to move forward with the program was made by Tim McCarthy and seconded by Brian Cassidy and approved by all present.
