Council approves one-year stewardship contract for Michiana butterfly garden up to $5,000

Beth Denton, Territory Manager for Pizzo Stewardship, told the council the firm had completed the final erosion control work at the butterfly garden and presented a proposed 2025 stewardship contract covering April through November. "Pizzo would continue to service the area where the pollinator garden is located, control invasive and non-native vegetation through hand pulling, brush in cutting, mowing or treatment as needed," Denton said, and the contract includes time, travel and supplies.
Councilmember Mike Botelho moved to approve a one-year contract not to exceed $5,000 and to revisit continuation for 2026; Nancy Thill seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote of 5–0. The contract tasks include invasive-species control and native-plant promotion through seed collection and dispersal; the work will be scheduled during the April–November window specified in the contract.
