Cottonwood County commissioners voted unanimously May 20 to hire outside counsel for an appeal related to the Sioux Rock Quarry Expansion Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW). County Attorney Nick Anderson led the discussion and the motion to retain counsel was made by Commissioner Tom Appel and seconded by Commissioner Wayne Maras.
The board approved a motion to hire Squires, Waldspurger & Mace, P.A., or another law firm, to represent the county on the EAW appeal. The decision followed discussion of the appeal; the county did not specify a contract value in the meeting minutes. The county attorney and the contracted firm will handle next steps in the appeal process.
