Archer Lodge council asks DOT to lower Loop Road speed in town limits

A resident urged the Archer Lodge council to press state highway officials to reduce speeds on Loop Road, saying the current conditions put people and animals at risk. During public comment, Kay Boyette said the road still sees livestock and speeding drivers and asked the town to seek a lower posted limit.
"I understand that y'all are going to look at the speed limit on Loop Road tonight... And sometimes, there's sheep in the road... it's dangerous," Kay Boyette told the council. Councilors and staff clarified that the council's action would establish a 45 mph posted limit on the portion of Loop Road within Archer Lodge town limits (to milepost 1.797) and would be a request and support letter to NCDOT for a rural speed zone on adjacent county sections. After discussion the council approved the motion by a 3–1 vote.
