The Village of Mazon Water/Sewer Committee recommended a 6% increase in water rates and adoption of a $50 red-tag notice fee following presentation of the committee's 2024 rate analysis on April 14, 2025. According to M. Murphy, the water account realized a loss of $63,474.03 in 2024. The analysis recorded a base rate charge of $0.0101 per gallon while the village collected $0.0066 per gallon, and cited rising costs for utilities, chemicals, testing and repairs. The presenter also said roughly 30% of water bills are unpaid by the due date, adding collection expenses and workload; the minutes note the village currently charges a $100 reconnect fee and the committee proposed adding a $50 charge for a red-tag notice.
The minutes record the committee's recommendation but do not record any subsequent formal action by the village board. The committee adjourned at 5:49 p.m.
