Senators pressed the Division on urban-forest damage in Nashville and the Division said it had activated an "urban forestry strike team" to inventory damage and advise city urban foresters. Heather Slayton, the state forester, said professionals from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Virginia, Florida and Georgia were en route to assist with inventory and recovery work. "So the city of Nashville requested that the division of forestry put forth that regional request," she said.
Slayton added the Division plans to use federal dollars for a broad, 30,000-foot urban forest analysis to identify where replanting and recovery will be most useful and to coordinate with nonprofits and local foresters on implementation. The committee discussed the limits of state assistance on private property and emphasized outreach and workshops to help homeowners and urban landowners recover.
