The Board of Education of Jacksonville School District #117 held a public hearing on Dec. 18, 2024, to consider the district's intent to sell not to exceed $17,000,000 in general obligation bonds (alternate revenue source) for the purpose of building and equipping a new elementary school building. The hearing was convened at 7:00 PM in the district board room and senior administrators and board members were present for questions from the board and the public.
During the public Q&A, Board Member Pool asked Superintendent Steve Ptacek to explain the bond process to the board. A member of the public, Marjorie Peterson, asked specifically what the district planned to do with Franklin and Lafayette elementary school properties. Superintendent Steve Ptacek responded, "The School District no longer owns those properties." He added that Jefferson Elementary had been sold "a very long time ago." The record therefore indicates the three properties mentioned are not currently owned by the district.
After the public hearing portion, Board Member Wilson moved to adjourn the hearing; Mr. Lonergan seconded. President Beard called the roll and the motion passed unanimously: Wilson, Lonergan, Trace, Leonard, Pool, Stewart, Beard voted yea; none voted nay. The public hearing was adjourned at 7:08 PM.
