The Planning and Zoning Commission moved to recommend the Anchorage Assembly approve a rezone of two parcels from B‑1A (local and neighborhood business) to R‑2M (mixed residential) under case 2026‑0092. Staff said the department sent 476 notices and received one supporting public comment, found no reviewing agency opposition, and recommended approval under the abbreviated rezone process.
Paul Hatcher, president of the Patterson Townhome Condominium Association and a senior planner with the Municipality of Anchorage (he said he was not the planner on this case), explained that B‑1A does not allow the dwelling multifamily uses present on the parcel and that rezoning to R‑2M would align the legal designation with the built environment. “We agree with staff's report,” Hatcher said, summarizing the association’s view that the application simply brings the parcel into compliance. Commissioner McKee moved the recommendation and the motion passed.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Assembly for final action.
