Commission to hold public hearings on ordinance changes required by state legislation, staff notes shooting-range provision

Staff presented an ordinance packet containing updates to the zoning ordinance required by recent state legislation and asked commission members to review the changes in advance of a public hearing.
"So this allows for shooting ranges," Staff member said while pointing to the packet that incorporated the state-driven changes. Commissioners discussed the statutory requirement to hold hearings at both the planning commission level and before the county commissioners and agreed to schedule a planning-commission public hearing as soon as staff posts the notice in the newspaper.
Members noted that some changes are ministerial and intended only to bring the county code into compliance with state law; staff will prepare materials, place the item on the next agenda for review, and publish the hearing notice for the subsequent meeting. The commission agreed to place the replat first on next month's docket and then proceed into the ordinance review and the fee schedule public hearing.
