The Brown County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance to allow an addition porch post for Kyle and Valdivia Heminger to sit approximately 44 feet from the centerline of Weber Hill Road, a reduction of roughly six feet from the 50-foot requirement in the county zoning ordinance. Staff reported the property contains a residence, barn and pond, and that the existing topography and location of septic systems constrained shifting the addition farther from the road.
Kayla told the board that staff had mistakenly issued a permit that reflected existing setbacks and that, upon inspection, the petitioner elected to apply for a variance to preserve safer ingress and egress rather than re-angle the porch. Board members noted nearby structures with reduced setbacks and approved the request; staff provided the site photos and a site plan to record the decision.
