Engineer says IDOT changed Motor Fuel Tax categories; sewer-tie meeting set for March 16

Rodney Potts of PSC Engineering told the Crainville Village Board on March 10 that the Illinois Department of Transportation has revised how municipalities budget Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds, splitting them into Category One (maintenance such as gravel, culverts, striping) and Category Two (asphalt overlay).
Potts provided estimates the village could use to apply MFT funds toward repairing the remainder of Marion Street. He also said the village is working to connect its sewer system to Carterville’s new treatment plant and scheduled a meeting at the Village Hall for March 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. to review grant and loan options for required headworks; PSC staff will explain application steps at that meeting.
The MFT reclassification affects how Crainville can budget street maintenance versus pavement overlays, and the sewer tie-in will require grant or loan funding for headworks equipment or construction.
