Hearing examiner grants conditional-use permit for 166-site Nielsen Campground with conditions

Chair (speaker 1) reported the hearing examiner granted a conditional-use permit to Lauren and Karen Nielsen and Jason and Lori McDougall authorizing construction of a 166-site public campground, subject to conditions in the hearing examiner's report. The chair emphasized those conditions include online booking and sign-in records open to county review, a restriction on generator use (no generators allowed), and a limited number of RV spaces with electricity.

"A conditional use permit is hereby granted to Lauren and Karen Nielsen and Jason and Lori McDougall authorizing construction of a 166 site public campground," the chair read from the decision and noted the decision is available as a PDF on the hearing-examiner site. Committee members discussed that objectors have 21 days from the ruling to file a superior-court appeal and that building permits, wetland delineation and stormwater work remain required before any construction can begin. The chair cautioned that even with approval, the building-permit and environmental-review processes can take many months.
