Jeff Christopher urged broad thinking: "Think small, think big..." and asked residents to decide whether they wanted more pedestrian infrastructure, improved shoulders for bikes, lighting, or larger intersection upgrades. Multiple participants cautioned that TBD money should not simply replace county responsibilities; instead, they suggested working in partnership with Whatcom County to augment maintenance and pursue joint projects.
Speakers referenced recent local examples to clarify tradeoffs: the Garden Club's small annual grant (~$8,000) for plantings, a stalled boat‑launch that was engineered but stalled over property acquisition, and Maple Beach pedestrian and restroom improvements that are underway but slowed by staffing. The committee said the survey will ask whether residents prefer ongoing maintenance funding, capital investments, or a balance of both.
