Students to study Point Roberts in pro-bono planning studio, committee told

Western Washington University students will study Point Roberts pro bono, running surveys, town halls and drafting recommendations from late September through the following May; the committee was asked to help publicize a survey that closes Aug. 15.
Chair (speaker 1) told the Point Roberts Community Advisory Committee that Western Washington University's urban planning senior studio will use Point Roberts as a case study and produce a booklet of recommendations. Reese, a committee member representing local stakeholder outreach, described the program timeline and engagement plan.
"It'll start in late September and go through the end of May," Reese said, summarizing the studio schedule and noting two classes in the fall and one in the spring will work with the community. Reese asked committee members to publicize an online and paper survey that closes Aug. 15 and to encourage community participation at planned town halls.
The committee discussed how survey responses will be treated; Reese said anonymous submissions will be included in the collection but not counted in the official tallies because of data-integrity concerns. Reese also demoed the online ranking question and agreed to clarify directions so users understand the side-scroll ranking interface. The committee agreed to post paper copies at the community center and other local venues and to coordinate additional outreach.
