Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan told the board the lead custodian role at La Verne was on leave and the district needed an immediate interim solution. He recommended a $4,000 stipend — described to the board as the current 'hard-to-staff' differential — to recruit a qualified lead custodian for the start of the school year and said the board could make the position full-time and floating among schools in the future.
"I need to get a lead custodian," the director said, explaining the operational strain of not having that capacity in place before school opens. Miss Darby moved the motion and Miss Sharp seconded; the motion was read into the record and approved by voice vote.
Board members discussed making the position a floating lead-custodian assignment so the person could be shifted where needed rather than permanently assigned to one school. Director Sullivan said the vacancy could last until October and that creating the floating role would improve district-wide responsiveness to custodial needs.
