Public Safety Committee approves Monroe Christmas parade permit with barricades

The Monroe Public Safety Committee voted to approve a permit for Main Streets Monroe's annual Christmas holiday parade and to place barricades around two parking lots across from the middle school to manage drop-offs and parked cars.

Committee members heard from Jordan, who said the event organizers already have permission to use the two lots but that last year they ran out of room because many people dropped children off and then left vehicles. "We always use the 2 parking lots, across from the middle school, and we've got permission to use those," Jordan said, adding that the addition of barricades would help keep people out of those areas. "Having barricades would be new," Jordan said.

A committee member moved to approve the special-event permit and include the barricades as requested; another member seconded the motion. The clerk called the roll and the chair declared, "That motion carries," approving the permit with the barricade plan. The record does not specify individual vote tallies.

The committee did not record additional conditions beyond the barricade request; committee members discussed that police presence would be part of traffic control and that use of the two parking lots had already been permitted.
