Elliot Kasparian told the court he believed his vehicle registration was current and moved to dismiss a ticket that had been attached to his vehicle for an alleged expired plate. Kasparian said his "registration is accurate," and asked the court to dismiss the citation.
The presiding judge denied the oral motion because Kasparian had no documentary proof in court, but allowed him to go retrieve registration documents and recall the case. When the case was recalled Kasparian stated the DMV website showed an in-progress renewal but ultimately acknowledged the registration appeared to be expired. The judge granted a continuance to Sept. 1 and reiterated that paying the face value of $130 would result in no court costs and a zero-point outcome on the license if the defendant chooses to pay rather than proceed to trial.
