John Maxwell appeared before the Town of Carbondale Municipal Court on Aug. 4 and accepted an oral plea bargain on a charge of driving without plates or registration. Prosecutor Stephanie Bergner told the court the parties had reached an agreement to accept a plea to expired plates and registration and dismiss a separate charge for failure to observe a traffic control device.
The presiding judge asked Maxwell to enter his plea; Maxwell answered "Guilty," and the judge said, "I'll accept that plea." The judge noted the four-point ticket was dismissed, assessed a fine and surcharge (totaling $130 after waivers and reductions), and waived court costs. The defendant was given a card with payment instructions and released to pay the fine across the hall.
