The executive director for Big Brothers Big Sisters requested $1,600 to market the Tour de Cheese bike event in two publications (Wisconsin Bike Association and Trails), citing a range of past participation and an effort to rebuild ridership.
"We have held a Tour de Cheese bike event since 2009... we have riders that come not only from Wisconsin, but Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa," the executive director said, noting past attendance has ranged from as few as 15 (during COVID virtual year) to as many as 106 participants and that organizers hope to increase ridership back toward 50–60 participants. They added that the event includes rest stops at cheese factories and can attract overnight stays.
The commission approved the request as part of the bundle.
