Administrator Rindy updated the Plan Commission on the city’s contract with Southwest Regional Planning Commission to update Monroe’s comprehensive plan. The council has approved the proposal and the project is expected to begin in early 2025.
Rindy said the scope includes updating maps, coordinating with community stakeholders, reviewing zoning implications, and producing housing-affordability reports required by statute. The consultant will work with the plan commission and council and is likely to host several public open houses to engage stakeholders. "We'll anticipate a kickoff in spring of next year," Rindy said.
Commissioners discussed the timeline and past experience with the previous plan update (work began around 2015 with formal adoption in 2016). Staff noted a committee will be formed to work with the consultant and that the public-engagement schedule may be less extensive than prior cycles but will still include multiple open-house events.
