Park Supervisor Trim asked the board to consider two shade structures to provide seating and sun protection between the new pickleball courts at Northeast Park, saying the project would be paid for from donations raised for the conversion. Two quotes were received: Commercial Rec Specialists at $16,670 (recommended) and USA Shade at $18,350.
Trim described the canopy design as similar to recently installed shades at the splash pad and said the department plans to remove the fabric in winter to extend service life. "The poles, I think, are like a 20 year life. And then the canopies, they say on average 10 years," Trim said. A motion to accept the lower quote and forward the recommendation to city council passed on a roll-call vote with all present voting Aye.
The council will consider the contract award and the Parks Department will schedule installation based on weather and project sequencing with the court conversion and surfacing.
