Board endorses low bid for divider fencing at Northeast Park pickleball courts

The Board of Public Works voted unanimously to forward a $22,574 bid from Jeff Begley Landscaping to the city council for interior divider fencing that will create multiple pickleball courts at Northeast Park; fundraising has nearly met a $250,000 target for the larger conversion project.
Park Supervisor Trim told the Board of Public Works the city is beginning conversion of existing tennis courts at Northeast Park into multiple pickleball courts and that private fundraising has covered much of the project. "Fundraising went really, really well. We've almost nearly reached the goal, which was $250,000 to help offset the cost of the conversion to pickleball," Trim said.
Trim presented three competitive quotes for interior divider fencing to partition the courts. The low bid was from Jeff Begley Landscaping at $22,574; Sager Fencing and Century Fencing each quoted $28,600. Trim said the department issued minimum-specifications that included fencing gauges and that the only likely source of price difference was labor for removal of existing elements such as the current maze gates. Trim also confirmed the recommended contractor would remove and dispose of old fencing as part of the contract.
A board member moved to accept the Jeff Begley Landscaping quote and forward the contract recommendation to the city council; another member seconded. The board held a roll-call vote and approved the motion (all present voted Aye). The council will consider final authorization.
