OHV program to add mechanized trail crew, seasonal counter reader and public safety campaigns

Wade Allinson, OHV Program Manager, told the council the program is hiring a seasonal worker to read trail counters along the Paiute ATV Trail and plans to base a mechanized trail crew in Richfield to repair fire-damaged trails on Monroe Mountain, Arapene and the Paiute systems. He said in-person side-by-side and motorcycle safety training courses are under development, including a live course in Carbon County that will provide full-face helmets to participants.
Allinson also described a public education campaign launching in March and April aimed at clarifying that unregistered high-powered e-motorcycles (for example, Sur-rons) are subject to OHV laws even when operated on city pavement. The program is coordinating a Forest Service Class A bucking certification course for 20 participants called "Thinking Sawyer" to support local clubs and crews. These operational changes are presented as program updates and do not require council votes.
