Cicero SD 99 board reads letter assuring families district will not request immigration status

The Cicero School District 99 board heard a letter read by Superintendent Dr. Calderin on Sept. 10 assuring families that district policy protects students regardless of immigration status. The letter stated, in part, "Per federal law, Cicero District 99 never asks for a student or their family’s immigration status when the child is enrolled in school," and emphasized that immigration status will not affect the quality of education provided.
The letter also said the district will not share student records without a court order or parent/guardian consent and that all immigration enforcement personnel, including local authorities and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), must have a judicial warrant before accessing any district facility. Dr. Calderin presented the guidance as part of the district's commitment to nondiscrimination and directed families to support resources including social workers and counselors.
