Acupuncture clinic application tabled until applicant obtains license

The Economic Development Committee voted to table (pass over) the grant application from an applicant seeking to open an acupuncture and wellness clinic at 26 West Main Street until the applicant completes required licensing steps.
The applicant, who identified themself as Koi and said they are completing a master's degree at MCPHS in Worcester, explained the clinic plan, equipment needs and a family‑owned property arrangement. Koi said lift tables and several treatment tables are the most significant costs and estimated timing for licensing aims at October for board eligibility. "I should be able to take the board exam and be licensed by October," the applicant said.
Committee members expressed support for the proposal but raised concerns about issuing funds before the applicant is certified to practice. Several members recommended the award be contingent on board certification; others suggested the applicant return in November with proof of licensure. The committee passed a motion to revisit the application in November and advised the applicant to keep receipts from purchases made in the interim so expenses can be documented for potential reimbursement.
