The Economic Development Committee approved a $5,000 business assistance grant to Star Dog Grooming to support equipment purchases, facility improvements and water/sewer upgrades, the committee chair announced after deliberation.
Alexander, who introduced himself during the meeting, described the business and the need to invest in dryers, a washing machine, a tub and signage to serve larger dogs. He told the committee the space opened recently and that an unexpected water/sewer fee—caused by a change of use and absence of previously assigned credits—had created an upfront expense for the new tenant.
Town staff explained that water/sewer credits are assigned to the building owner and may be passed to tenants; the EDC discussed eligible grant uses and confirmed that capital items (tables, dryers, tubs) are appropriate. The committee moved and voted to award $5,000 to Star Dog Grooming with standard verification and receipt requirements; the motion passed on a roll‑call vote.
