Elko County E-911 board directs staff to pursue six‑position radio consoles as state upgrade nears

The Elko County Enhanced 9‑1‑1 Board voted to have staff pursue purchase of a six‑position radio console system to ensure the local dispatch center can connect to the state’s planned Nevada Shared Radio System (NSRS) upgrade.

Chair summarized vendor estimates for console systems and the need to align with the NSRS schedule. "We're talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 to 650 ish thousand dollars for this upgrade," the Chair said, noting quotes covered 4‑position and 6‑position configurations and appeared to include installation. Board members said funds are available in the E‑911 fund and urged staff to try to lock quoted prices if possible before year end.

Board member Kevin McKinney moved to pursue the purchase and the motion was seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote. Staff was directed to place the project on the capital request list for the upcoming budget process and to pursue quotes and approvals with the goal of completing purchases within the current fiscal year if feasible (the board noted the fiscal year ends June 30). The board and staff discussed a range of options — including remote positions and secondary locations for supervisor consoles — and asked staff to return with finalized quotes and a recommended procurement plan.
