District outlines plan to expand school meal production and issues RFP; vendor finalists due May 15

Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Jeremy Davis told the board that the district plans to implement the National School Meal Program across all schools by 2027, contingent on Phase 2 of the Long Range Facilities Plan renovations. The proposal would create three production kitchens (Northwood to serve Wayne Thomas; Sherwood to serve Indian Trail and Oak Terrace; Edgewood to serve Ravinia and Braeside) while Red Oak would continue to serve itself.
An RFP published March 27 drew five respondents; three vendors (Organic Life, K‑12 by Elios, Quest) participated in tastings and were invited to present to the district evaluation committee. Mr. Davis said final proposals were due May 15 and that a vendor recommendation is expected to be presented to the board on May 20, 2025. He emphasized the procurement follows federal and state requirements triggered by the planned operational changes.
