Resident questions $75 'treat no transport' EMS charge; county manager to provide itemized billing info

During open forum at the Dec. 2 meeting, resident Derrick White said he received an EMS bill for $75 despite not being transported to the emergency room and asked why the public was not notified beforehand.
White told the commission his concern was lack of notice: "he does not agree that he should be receiving this bill when he did not get transport to the emergency room, he believes that this is what the $10.00 on the water bill should be for." County Manager Thomas Weaver and Chairman Charles Coffey both explained the county's practice. Weaver said the $75 charge is for on‑scene treatment when there is no transport and that the $10 charge on the water bill funds 911 service. Weaver said he will bring an itemized charges sheet to the next meeting for commissioners to review.
The issue returned in a Dec. 22 work session where Weaver provided a fuller breakdown of typical ambulance charges used in the county's fee schedule: "basic ALS transport is $1000.00, ALS2 is $1600.00 ... you are basically looking at $1500.00 for ambulance transport," and reiterated that the $75 fee is for treat-no-transport responses. Commissioners asked staff to prepare clearer public information about EMS fees.
