The Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission on Sept. 2 voted unanimously to recommend a proposed millage rate of 9.504 mills, an increase of 1.25 mills from the previous rate. "Motion to recommend proposed millage rate of 9.504, which is an increase of 1.25 mil from last year," the minutes record as the motion the commission approved to place on its public-notice schedule.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the estimated homeowner impact: "with a homestead property of a fair market value of $100,000, it would be an estimated increase of $50.00 a year; on a homestead property of $50,000 it would be an estimated increase of $25.00 a year." The commission approved the procedural step of recommending the proposed rate and setting hearing dates; at the Sept. 22 work session manager Weaver later said advertising problems required rescheduling the hearings to Oct. 1 (10 a.m. and 6 p.m.) and Oct. 8 (10 a.m.).
The Sept. 2 action was not a final tax-setting vote but a recommendation and calendar step; the commission scheduled public hearings and a final called meeting to adopt the millage after required notices. The minutes show the motion to recommend was seconded and carried unanimously, and that the school millage would remain unchanged.
