Planning commission honors longtime member David Howell after his death

The Elko County Planning Commission opened its meeting by honoring David Howell, a longtime commissioner who died after a motorcycle crash and subsequent hospitalization.
Chair (speaker 1) announced that David Howell was life-flighted to Salt Lake City after an incident on Corral Lane and "was put on life support and passed away on the 10th." The chair recounted Howell's tenure: "David had just made it to his 70th birthday… Commissioner Howe served on the Elko County Planning Commission from January 2001… 24 years, 3 months," and asked attendees to rise for a minute of silence followed by the pledge of allegiance.
The commission also asked staff to keep Howell's nameplate in place for the next two meetings and discussed leaving the seat open for two months as a mark of respect. Chair and commissioners noted Howell's military service in Vietnam and his pride in long service to the community.
