Peyton updated the board on fiber-route negotiations and redundancy options, saying he had spoken with ABC’s Reno studio and that the studio could provide at least two carrier connections, though carrier names and pricing remain unconfirmed. The board discussed whether to continue using the switch data center as the primary feed and to pursue dual redundant feeds to reduce a single point of failure.
On a parallel topic, Peyton said the NSHE university network could provide a secondary connection to dispatch at no charge, but that the county had not yet signed the necessary paperwork to complete the connection. "The University then she fiber guys are all ready. They're just waiting for the County, commissioners to sign the paper," Peyton said. The board directed staff to continue pursuing redundant connections, cost comparisons and follow-up with county officials about the NSHE paperwork.
