The commission was briefed on two funded projects: a PHMC grant for a multiple property documentation form (MPDF) for city firehouses and a DCNR-funded City Park System Heritage Study. Matthew Falcone said the contract to hire EDR (the firm that completed the architectural survey) will be sent to city council for consideration, and staff have budgeted in anticipation of these grants.
Falcone said the parks study will document the history of park creation, system significance, and changes in naming over time and will function as an early implementation project of the city's comprehensive parks and open spaces plan. Staff emphasized both projects will require consultant work and council approval to expend funds and issue RFPs.
Commissioners welcomed the grants and recognized the grant writer and funders for enabling the work. Staff said these efforts will improve the historical record and inform future planning and preservation work.
