The City of Cleveland Beer Board voted unanimously April 13, 2026 to suspend the beer permit of Goodies Smoke Shop, 671 Inman Street, for 14 days effective Friday, April 17 through Friday, May 1, after finding a violation of Cleveland Municipal Code 8-214(3), which prohibits sale or consumption of beer between 3:00 A.M. and 5:30 A.M. Monday through Saturday and between 3:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. on Sunday.
The action followed police testimony and review of body-camera footage from a March 1, 2026 bar check that showed alcoholic beverages on tables after the restricted hours. In his written report, Officer Hollifield said, "My body camera was active." Board member Ellie St. Pierre moved that a violation occurred; Donald Humes seconded the motion and, upon roll call, the motion passed unanimously.
Owner Adetowo Oni told the Board the gathering was a private 50th birthday party and that he generally closes at 3 a.m. He told the Board, "This was a special event for a 50th Birthday party. He had no help and was doing everything himself and not had time to clear the tables. They are only open until 3 a.m. and serves food until 4 a.m. so patrons are typically there until 4 a.m." Officers on scene reported observing several people leaving with cases of alcoholic beverages, which the police said contradicted the owner's account. Chairman Mark Smith said a Cleveland Police representative would collect the suspended permit; the meeting then adjourned.
