Crockett council accepts city secretary's resignation, appoints successor

After executive session the council accepted city secretary Mitzi Stefka’s resignation effective Sept. 30 and approved Selena Ellerbe as city secretary effective Oct. 1; councilors confirmed they had legal authority to proceed without posting the vacancy.
Following an executive session, the Crockett City Council on Aug. 3 accepted the resignation letter from City Secretary Mitzi Stefka, effective Sept. 30. A council member moved to accept the resignation; the motion was seconded and carried.
The council then nominated and approved Selena Ellerbe to serve as city secretary effective Oct. 1. A councilor noted for the record that staff had confirmed it was legal to proceed without posting the position prior to appointing a replacement. Both actions were approved by voice vote in open session.
