Text21 consultant pitches membership to Crockett; council questions representation listing

Representatives from the Tex(t)21 coalition described past work on the US‑287 corridor and asked the Crockett City Council to continue the city's membership. Gabe Serna, a Text21 consultant, said the group had helped prompt a TxDOT corridor study and promoted designation steps for turning US‑287 into an interstate corridor.
"The dues for Crockett would be $2,500 a year, which is not a huge commitment," Serna said while summarizing membership obligations, meeting cadence and previous work for Crockett. He also listed elected officials and agencies Text21 engages with along the corridor.
Councilors pressed staff and the presenters about which local officials had been listed as voting delegates on Text21 materials. A councilor noted Text21’s website showed Katrina Hicks as the city’s representative; staff said that listing did not reflect the council’s stated direction and that the mayor had been placed on the membership list after staff raised the issue with Text21. One councilor moved to rescind his earlier motion naming representatives; the rescission was seconded and carried, leaving the membership and representative appointments to be clarified at a later date.
Staff told council the city already paid one year of dues based on prior council action and that staff would follow up on alternates and formal representation. The council did not take a final vote to end the membership or to authorize ongoing travel; staff said it would seek further instruction from council.
